I started this semester and set out to master the EdTech specialization. I wasn’t really sure what I got myself into, but it all somehow…made sense. At the end of the semester, I decided not to choose a specialization, and embrace everything KISK has to offer. There are too many interesting things to learn and I enjoy sitting on the borders, connecting things. I learned some pretty amazing things. I created a good amount of cool things. I met so many incredible people. And believe it or not, thanks to KISK I learned what is love.
Thesis Seminar 📜
Sadly, I didn't manage to finish this class. Since I did not study LIS before, it took me a while to understand what am I actually studying and how all the concepts are connected to each other. I enjoyed meeting different people from KISK and learning more about the department. And by chance, I even got an exciting job thanks to one of the classes. By the end of the semester, I figured out I would like to focus on games and game design from the perspective of information science with the help of PhDr. Petr Škyřík, Ph.D. I plan to retake the class in the autumn semester and successfully finish the class with the knowledge I have now.
Librarian English 📚
Truth be told, I did not enjoy this class much. My English is rather advanced since my previous studies and most of my jobs required it, therefore most of the classes were just a waste of time for me. I did not learn much, but the class did “force” me to read more on top of compulsory readings. We had to set a SMART goal for the semester and for me it was reading 50 pages from History of EdTech. It would probably take me a bit longer to get to the book without this class and I learned a bit about the history and evolution of this field thanks to this class. As for my portfolio, I created a poster and a Kahoot quiz about e-learning in a team for our classmates.
Information Behaviour ❓
I really enjoyed this class. Since I was completely new to information science this was a nice intro class to some of the prominent theories of information behaviour. Both the individual task and group task were interesting, and I was very happy with the outcome. I also got to learn more about the methods of information science and behaviour, which was very beneficial for both my school and side projects.
Learning Society 🎓
I enjoyed this class immensly - both the content and the format. I enjoyed writing for EDTECH Medium, preparing for the class and the dicussions. This class moved me forward both professionally and as a person. Professionally, I was more motivated to explore knowledge transfer in game development, educational games and issues of marginalized groups. Apart from that, quite a few thoughts shared in the class resonated and stayed with me and one I would really like to share is this one:
"Beauty will save the world."
Expert Block 💡
One of my favourite classes of this semester. I liked that each class was different and thanks to all the guest lecturers I learned things I would not otherwise learn. Funnily enough, the first talk was given by Tammy Westergard. And just a few weeks after that I found myself writing a case study about Tammy's project SANDI and that created a nice full-circle moment for me. I also got to learn about one of my friends…at school! I also enjoyed the creation of the artifacts. You can have a look at them here. I enjoyed the talks about co-design, bibliodiversity, and games as history the most. Overall, many little concepts caught my attention and will probably stay with me for a while.
Apart from a poster and an infographic that are part of my portfolio for this semester, I created a Kahoot quiz and a mindmap as digital artifacts for this class.
Design of the Educational Process 👩🎓
A very interesting class that gave me a lot of insight into the educational process in general. I have always considered teaching but not so long ago I realized designing the learning process might be more for me. I learned some new methods, that are now helping me with my personal projects and the course opened up new doors for me. What was missing for me was other types of education apart from the formal one, specifically focused on high schools, but as already discussed with Mgr. Pavlína Mazáčová, Ph.D., the course is exhausting enough as it is. I did appreciate that when creating individual exercises, we were allowed to design informal educational processes.
And that's it for now. I took two more classes this semester - Digital Games Prorotyping and Summer School: Master Course, but both of these deserve a separate blog post so more on these soon!
